Yeji Lim, integrated M.S.–Ph.D. program student in the Department of Electronic Engineering, selected for the 2026 National Research Foundation of Korea Academic Research Support Project in the field of natural sciences and engineering

Department of Electronic Engineering Yaeji Lim·integrated M.S.–Ph.D. program student(advisor Hongseok Kim)has been selected for the 2026 academic year's academic research support project in the field of natural sciences and engineering, specifically the ‘Research Encouragement Grant for Ph.D. Students’ supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea.
The Ph.D. research encouragement grant supports students to conduct research on creative and challenging ideas on their own initiative. It targets Ph.D. students who are pursuing their studies and research full-time at domestic graduate schools, as well as students in the integrated M.S.–Ph.D. program·and Ph.D. programs.
The selected project is ‘Development of AI-Optimization Integrated Framework for Fast and Feasible Power Generation Start-Stop Planning Considering Transmission Constraints·and Realizationvia AI-Optimization’, which aims to establish a power generation operation plan that satisfies power grid operating conditions quickly by combining artificial intelligence and mathematical optimization. To achieve this, the project will utilize a neural network reflecting the optimization formula structure and unsupervised learning, and then adjust and verify the operation plan derived by AI using mathematical optimization techniques to increase both computational efficiency and reliability. By doing so, the project plans to enhance both calculation efficiency and reliability·of the power generation operation plan.
This will support stable and efficient power system operation and, AI contribute to research on optimization of engineering systems based on.
